Scouting needs canoes

Posted By FOR THE TIMES-JOURNAL

Denis Sonier, of Acadian Realty, and Tom Martin, of A.N. Martin, recently provided a gift of a NovaCraft canoe to Elgin Area Scouts.

They have issued a challenge to individuals, businesses or organizations make a donation to help upgrade the aging canoes.

Elgin Scouting's 27-year-old canoes have served local youth well and have been paddled on many lakes and down many rivers in Ontario but have now developed safety and dependability concerns.

For many years, Elgin Area Scouting has offered an extensive canoe training and water safety program to the youth of the community and would like to continue to offer this valuable outdoor program.

Elgin Scouting expressed gratitude for the financial support of Sonier, Martin, the Shedden/Fingal Optimists and the Knights of Columbus, but notes there remains a need for five new canoes.

Anyone interested in taking up the challenge by donating towards the purchase of a canoe is asked to contact either Rob Molnar (519-762-2489) or Heather Schneider (519-633-1256) for details.

ELGIN GILWELLIANS

Back To Gilwell

Each year a group of Elgin Area Leaders who have completed their Woodbadge Training and have received their Necherchief & Beads  gather together and travel to Blue Springs for a weekend of fellowship and fun. The Gilwell Reunion is usually held the second weekend of September.

Elgin Gilwellians are popular at the reunion for their famous silk screening images and handout cards with thoughts pertaining to the theme of the reunion.
